Ludovico Marchetti (Itália, 1853-1909)

Ludovico Marchetti nasceu em Roma no dia 10 de maio de 1853. Sua formação artística iniciou-se no ateliê do pintor espanhol Mariano Fortuny y Marsal, que tinha um estúdio em Roma no início da década de 1870. Em 1878, com 25 anos, partiu para França, onde continuou seus estudos e começou a expor no Salão de Paris, em Berlim e Munique. Como muitos de seus contemporâneos, Marchetti especializou-se em pintura histórica. Entre seus temas favoritos eram os cavaleiros e trovadores do século XVIII ricamente vestidos com roupas coloridas. Permaneceu em Paris até sua morte no dia 20 de junho de 1909.

Recently at auction, I bought a small landscape in oil. In mainly yellow colours is resembles a van gogh rather than anything i’ve seen by Ludovico Marchetti. whose signature is in the bottom left hand corner, As I said it doesnt look anything like any of the paintings and i wondered if if coule be a student piece. I can send on images if you like…?? also I don’t know much about him as an artist and would like to know where. I look forward to hearing from you. Charlie Meehan
Hello Charlie, I know little about Marchetti, but will take a look at some sources and get back to you. Italian sites might be the best way to approach any kind of research on this painter. Happy 2013!
